Our Story

Welcome to The Reading Clinic. With over 20 years of experience and thousands of hours of remediation, we connect research and practice to improve the quality of literacy instruction. Our experienced Literacy Interventionists are trained in evidence-based educational practices to improve literacy outcomes for all.

Literacy is recognized as a fundamental, human right that empowers individuals in society.

Illiteracy brings with it outcomes that no one wishes for, socially or economically. We know that if we had access to all the tools and resources we needed to quickly and effectively assess our students, create goals, and lesson plan around these goals - we would be doing it! We can crack the code of our language, but we can’t teach what we don’t know.

Decades of research is available to educators to bridge the gap for our students yet remains missing from our classrooms. Though a few programs scratch the surface, it is simply not enough.

After years of researching and practicing different approaches, we discovered through science-based research that students’ brains need explicit instruction to build the processors and strengthen the pathways in the brain to acquire reading at a strong level.

This evidence-based reading instruction needs to be explicitly taught sequentially and systematically to ensure that our students, especially the most vulnerable, are afforded the right to read, allowing them all a place at the table of opportunity regardless of their path toward the workforce or post-secondary education.

The more quickly our students learn to read, the more they want to read. The more they understand, the less they struggle with spelling and the more capacity they have for writing what they want to say and of course, comprehending what they read!

The Reading Clinic will inspire you and equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to develop a conscious understanding of how language works. Our sincere hope is that our time together will serve as a springboard for learning and that many more excellent ideas and experiences evolve.
