HEART WORDS: ORTHOGRAPHIC MAPPING DECK

CA$7.99

Most words in the English language can be spelled using basic knowledge of phonics and spelling rules. When students discover words in which one or more letter is unusual or irregular, we teach the Heart Words technique.

Heart words are words that often need to be explicitly taught because one part of the word is irregularly spelled and must be learned by heart. i.e. “said” In this activity, students are encouraged to identify and name the letter-sound correspondence(s) they are familiar with, and then learn the irregular, tricky part “by heart” by placing a heart above or below the irregular spelling.

Over 50 temporarily and permanently irregular spelled word cards included with examples of every irregular spelling plus sentences to assist with writing and comprehension activities on the back.
